Privacy is an essential element in creating a business and organizational environment that fosters trusting, long-term relationships with existing customers and encourages the development of new clients. Building a Global Privacy Program is a highly multi-faceted and multi-phased, interactive project that must be customized according to each organization’s needs and circumstances. Ken Anderson, Assistant Privacy Commissioner at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (Dr. Ann Cavoukian), will explain how PbD is used to embed privacy into the architecture of new systems and business processes. This PbD approach protects privacy, without compromising functionality, performance or security; thus providing a positive-sum outcome, not zero-sum. Although there is no Privacy by Design “solution in a box”, Ken will identify essential components of an effective global privacy program and give examples from experiences of the Ontario Commissioner’s Office. Ken will also provide materials about privacy by design covering issues such as PbD training, PbD and Cloud computing, and PbD and mobile services.
