The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data ("PCPD") respects your personal data privacy. The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data supervises compliance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance ("the Ordinance") within the PCPD.

The PCPD will provide a Personal Information Collection Statement ("PICS") on the form or webpage that collects personal data to inform you of our purposes of collecting the data and the classes of persons to whom the data may be transferred, etc.. Provision of personal data to the PCPD is entirely voluntary. You will be informed if the service to be provided for you will be affected without your personal data. We recommend you consult your parents or teachers before providing any personal data.

Kinds of Personal Data Held by the PCPD 1. Records related to the functions of the PCPD such as personal data collection in the course of handling complaints, enquiries, matching procedure applications, compliance checks, investigations, inspections of personal data systems and legal assistance applications 2. Information collected when you visit our websites

Use of cookies - When you visit this website, files called "cookies" will be stored in your computer's browser to:

  • remember the font size you have chosen in our site
  • help us differentiate human users from computer programmes in our online submission forms in order to prevent computer-based attacks

You may choose not to accept cookies in your browser. If you do not accept cookies, our site will not remember the font size you have chosen and you will not be able to make any online submission. This website does not use cookies to collect your personal data. 

Statistics on visitors to our websites – The webserver makes a record of your visit which includes your IP addresses and domain names, the types and configurations of browsers, language settings, geo-locations, operating systems, previous sites visited, and time/duration and the pages visited . We use such data only for website enhancement.

The PCPD does not use, and has no intention to use the visitor’s data to personally identify you.


Outsourcing arrangements

Our websites are developed and maintained by local third-party service provider. All PCPD service providers are bound by contractual duty to keep confidential any data they access against unauthorised access, use and retention.

The PCPD takes appropriate steps to protect the personal data we hold against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure.


Retention

To ensure personal data is not kept longer than is necessary, different retention periods apply to the various kinds of personal data collected and held by the PCPD.


Disclosure of personal data

The PCPD will only disclose personal data to relevant parties or agencies who are authorised to receive information when necessary.

Personal data may be disclosed to parties contacted by the PCPD in the course of handling complaints, investigations, compliance checks and enquiries.

When the PCPD processes legal assistance applications, personal data may be disclosed to the applicant's legal representative (if any), the prospective defendant (including his legal representatives, if any), the courts or other parties concerned.
