Seminar on “Avoid Scams by Protecting Your Personal Data”


Scams in various forms often involve swindling and embezzling citizens’ personal data, including names, identity card numbers, contact numbers, email addresses and credit card details. Members of the public must stay vigilant at all times, especially when using smartphones and social media, in order to prevent fraudsters from obtaining your personal data.

Against this background, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) organises this seminar, in which the Assistant Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data Ms Joyce LAI will provide practical tips to protect your personal data privacy when using smartphones, instant messaging software and social media. Mr Andy LAU, Senior Inspector from the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) of the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force will also discuss the latest trends of scams, using real cases as examples.

Members of the public with an interest in the topic are welcome to attend. Enrolment is on a first-come-first-served basis.
