Promoting Data Security – Privacy Commissioner Publishes an Article entitled “Safeguarding Data Security to Stay Competitive” at The Bulletin
The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, published an article entitled "Safeguarding Data Security to Stay Competitive" in
The Bulletin, the magazine of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
In the article, the Privacy Commissioner cited the results of the
"Hong Kong Enterprise Cyber Security Readiness Index and Privacy Awareness Survey 2023", which showed that the cybersecurity readiness amongst the surveyed enterprises dropped from 53.3 points (out of 100) in 2022 to 47.0 points in 2023. She emphasised that under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, data users are required to take all practicable steps to safeguard the security of personal data.
The Privacy Commissioner encouraged enterprises to make data security a priority and harness the resources provided by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data to enhance data security, including the
“Guidance Note on Data Security Measures for Information and Communications Technology” and the “Data Security Trio” (i.e., the “
Data Security Scanner” self-assessment toolkit, the
Data Security thematic webpage, and the data security hotline 2110 1155).
