PCPD Launches “Student Ambassador for Privacy Protection Programme -
Partnering Schools Recognition Scheme 2021” cum
“Mobile Game Apps Design Competition for Secondary School Students”

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong (PCPD), has just launched the “Student Ambassador for Privacy Protection Programme - Partnering Schools Recognition Scheme 2021” (SAP) for secondary school students to encourage all secondary schools to join the network of “partnering schools” to foster a culture of respecting and protecting personal data privacy in campus. The SAP, which is co-organised by the Business-School Partnership Programme of the Education Bureau, will be held till the end of 2021.

The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong, Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling said, “Nowadays, youngsters have been exposed to the internet since childhood. With online learning, social networking and entertainment, etc., becoming an integral part of their daily lives, it is imperative to enhance their awareness in protecting privacy in relation to personal data.”

The SAP has set seven “Privacy Protection Missions” for students nominated by participating secondary schools to achieve, collectively or individually. The following is a special mission among the seven missions:

Mobile Game Apps Design Competition for Secondary School Students (apps design competition)
Participating teams should choose one of the two designated competition themes – “Say ‘No’ to Cyberbullying” or “Stay Vigilant Online: Exercise Caution when Disclosing Personal Data” to design and create mobile game apps. Through this competition, students may unlock their creativity and design their own mobile game apps, while at the same time learn how to protect personal data privacy in the cyberworld and say “no” to cyberbullying during the design process.

The apps design competition also welcomes entries for open groups. Secondary school students may participate in the open group individually or as a team.

Winning schools in the SAP will receive diamond, gold, silver and bronze awards, while students winning in the apps design competition will be awarded scholarships and trophies.

To tie in with the apps design competition, teaching videos will be distributed to schools to explain to students the importance of protecting personal data privacy.
