New Membership of Standing Committee on Technological Development

The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner) Mr Stephen Kai-yi WONG announced the appointment of a new member and re-appointment of four incumbent members who will have their service term expired at the end of 2019 to the Standing Committee on Technological Developments (SCTD). New service term of the members will start on 1 January 2020 and will last till 31 December 2021.

The SCTD was established to advise the Privacy Commissioner on the impact of the developments in the processing of data and computer technology on the privacy of individuals in relation to personal data.

The Privacy Commissioner and the Deputy Privacy Commissioner are the co-chairpersons of the SCTD. Mr Stephen Kai-yi WONG said, “Information and communications technology is developing rapidly and impacting significantly our personal data and privacy rights. The need for my office to keep abreast of technological developments is more pressing than ever in order to formulate appropriate regulatory policies and take prompt and fair enforcement actions. The SCTD, comprising members with commendable expertise and experience in computer technology, social science and privacy protection regulations, will play a pivotal role in assisting my office to achieve our mission and goals. I look forward to working closely with all members of the SCTD.”
