Response to media enquiry on the Data Breach Incident of BMW Concessionaires (HK)

“I am writing to ask about the Privacy Commissioner’s response to the recent BMW data breach.”
Answers:

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) received a data breach notification from the relevant organisation regarding the incident on 18 July and has advised the relevant organisation to notify the affected data subjects as soon as possible. The PCPD further received a data breach notification from Sanuker Inc. Limited (the contractor of the relevant organisation) regarding the incident on 24 July. The PCPD has commenced an investigation into the incident in accordance with established procedures.

The PCPD has not received any enquiries or complaints regarding the incident.
