Response to Media Enquiry on the Cathay Pacific Airways Data Breach Incident


Thank you for your email enquiry. Please find the response from the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong (PCPD) as follows:
  • As of 4:00pm on 26 October 2018, the PCPD received 24 complaints and 27 enquiries relating to Cathay Pacific Airways data breach incident. 
  • The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong expressed serious concern over the Cathay Pacific Airways data breach incident, noting that the incident might involve a vast amount of personal data (such as name, date of birth, passport number, Hong Kong Identity Card number, credit card number, etc) of local and foreign citizens. The PCPD has proactively contacted the airline and initiated a compliance check.
