Response to Media Enquiry on the Collaboration Between PCPD and Personal Data Protection Commission Singapore

Thank you for your email enquiry.
  • The Privacy Commissioner believes that exchange with overseas data protection authorities such as Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) Singapore is important as it can establish closer collaboration between the regulators, and also facilitate discussion about matters of common interest.
  • Personal data protection has become a borderless issue and thus calls for cross-jurisdictional responses.  If situation warrants, the Privacy Commissioner may liaise with PDPC Singapore for follow-up actions pursuant to enhanced interoperability and cross-jurisdictional cooperation in cases where Hong Kong and/or Singapore residents' personal data is involved.
  • The details of the collaboration between the PCPD Hong Kong and the PDPC Singapore are in the process of being ironed out. Further details will be announced in due course.

The information can be attributed to the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong Mr Stephen Kai-yi Wong.
