Privacy Awareness Week 2022

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong (PCPD) is organising the Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) 2022 from 11 to 17 July 2022. It is an annual promotion campaign jointly supported by members of the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA) (including the PCPD). The theme for this year is "Privacy Protection in Digital Era”. A number of activities will be held during the PAW 2022:

The 57th APPA Forum

One of the key highlights of the PAW 2022 is the 57th APPA Forum, which will be hosted by the PCPD from 12 to 13 July 2022 as one of the celebratory events of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Representatives from different data protection authorities across the Asia Pacific region will gather together at the Forum to discuss a wide array of global privacy issues and share regulatory and enforcement experiences.

On 13 July 2022, the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong, Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling will lead a panel discussion entitled “Privacy Issues Arising from Emerging Technologies and the Regulatory Roadmaps”, with privacy/information commissioners or senior representatives from Australia, Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom joining us as panellists.

“Learning and Teaching Privacy on Social Media” Online Forum

The PCPD and the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education (HKACE) will jointly organise the “Learning and Teaching Privacy on Social Media” Online Forum on 15 July 2022. This event is supported by the Education Bureau, with speakers including Mr Brad KWOK Ching-hei, Acting Chief Personal Data Officer (Compliance & Enquiries) of the PCPD, Mr CHU Ka Tim, Vice Principal of the Hong Kong True Light College and Chairman of the HKACE, as well as Ms CHENG Yuen Ting, STEM Education & e-Learning Coordinator of St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School and Publications Officer of the HKACE. The speakers will share key issues on personal data privacy relating to the use of social media and their teaching experience on media etiquette with principals and teachers of primary and secondary schools.

Other promotional activities

To promote the PAW 2022, the PCPD has placed a poster entitled “Practical Tips on Privacy Protection in Using Social Media” on the screen doors of MTR trains for two weeks until 20 July 2022, and will send the poster to stakeholders, such as members of the Data Protection Officers’ Club, government departments and schools.
